Late Model Schwinn Cruiser...

Postby bikeriderx on Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:39 pm

A friend a work told me he had seen this "old bike"..."You know, like the ones you like: curvy frame and fat tires" chained up to a tree outside a house on his dog walking route..."And a couple of bicycle wheels too". So I decied to stop by on my way into work this morning....

Image

Not exactly "old"...But cool!!

I guess this one can accomodate very tall riders:

Image

How 'bout this upsidedown headbadge...

Image

I didn't know Schwinn offered a 'Lifetime Warranty'! :?

Image

I wonder what year it is? The headbadge is stamped '3162' so that's the 316th day of...'82? '92? '02? It has a serial # on the bottom of the bb: HJ216248?? The bike looks alot like one Bunch O' Bikes has on his webpage:http://www.bunchobikes.com/ So I'm guessin' it's a 1982...Or maybe a 1992...Anyway...Here's the extra wheels that came with it:

Image

Basic, imported 26 x 2.125...Minimal rust...Interestingly enough, the front wheel on the bike is a Schwinn S-2, in fairly nice condition...

Image

But the rear is a Tiwanese import...All in all, it was a good way to start the workday!

I seems it's the same with bikes as it is with cars, people tells me all the time 'Oh, so and so has this old...' and it turns out it's a '80s or '90s whatever.

Anyway what are your plans for it, are you going to build it into something or flip it?

are there visible welds on the steer tube/b.b.?
id post a picture of that and the rear triangle(where the fender would mount under the seat) those are good indicators of the year on the newer ones....although it wont give an exact year but itll give you a decade at least

Yes, my feelings exactly! I can't wait to 'rod it! btw...has anyone had any luck making/finding extended length handlebar stems? As you all know, so many of those things are pretty short...
