Greetings from Rochester NY (now it's Bristol, CT)

Postby JoeyMac on Fri Dec 14, 2007 1:14 pm

Hello, I am new to the ratrodbikes forum, but I am liking what I see so far. I've been restoring some bikes for the past several months with a buddy of mine. My proudest one right now is the Spaceliner (see below), found rusting outside of a barn and brought back to life. I didn't rat it out much (yet), but it was a good jumping off point. Now I've got another project in the works but I think I will try posting it in the gallery section. Nice to be here!

a few more of my rides (updating as I go)...

My Dad's old '57 Schwinn (his first bike):

My First Bike, a 1970 Stingray (recently upgraded):

I called it "the silver bullet" as a kid and the name still works.

custom SpaceLiner - DevilWing:

custom 24" SpaceLiner - StarFighter:

custom SpaceLiner - the Navigator:

custom 26-24" Spaceliner - StealthBomber:

my All Original Spaceliner (60's):

Late 40's RoadMaster Luxury Liner:

Late 50's Roadmaster:

as found

1960(?) Ross Futura Super Deluxe:

I call it my Big Red Rocket of Love.

A pair of late 60's(?) Spyders:

1970 Stingray:

This was my "road trip" bike in October last year, I brought it to Brooklyn and New Hampshire

1967 Western Flyer English 3-speed:

I call it Sheldon, in honor of a man who had an affinity for english 3-speeds.

Those are the functional ones. I've got more that are in various states of being brought back to life. I'll update this as I complete them I guess. This is what my living room looked like before I got a couch and coffee table and had to move some bikes to other parts of the apartment:

UPDATE: and here is what it looks like about a year later:

By the way, I don't own a car (which saves me money, which I spend on bikes instead). I use these ones for regular commuting and general getting around:
Image
all of those were free with the exception of the light blue '77 Zebrakenko Storm (called Kaminari, or "Storm of the Gods" in Japanese) that I got at a yard sale for $10 (it's FAST!). Each of them has their practical purposes. The Ross Chimera hybrid is equipped with full coverage fenders for rainy days. The MTB in back is my snow monster, Thunderhorse, and was given to me by a driver who hit me and wrecked the rear wheel on the hybrid (which I replaced anyway). The dark blue Schwinn Frontier was given to me by a coworker here who bought it in the early 90s but had it sitting for the last 10 years or so on his back porch. It's fun when I want to take the back way to work:

Yep. I like bikes.

Very cool bikes, especially the Spaceliner with the banana seat and sissy bar. That looks great! I might have to steal that look...

Let your "bad self" bloom here! Welcome to you and your fleet. The pulse of the world says that Spaceliners seem to be the new Phantoms  You have plenty of similarly afflicted addicts here.
A BLAST from the past!

Thanks! But I've been here for a little while, I joined in December, but I felt like updating my intro thread because it's in my signature and I have gotten a lot more bikes since I joined. I have been having a blast here, and it's only made me more addicted to bikes! You have a sweet fleet yourself.
