still a long way to go to make it a motorized bike, but its a working bicycle again. fairly comfortable to ride, if you dont mind your knees being in your chest lol.

Re: My cruiser BTR projectTo fill in a little detail about the plans for the motor, it will get a little intake and exhaust porting, transfer port will be enlarged (its a nasty cast hole right now) a better carb, somewhere between 15 and 19mm and properly jetted will be added. right now i'm leaning towards a 16mm bing style carb on ebay for 30$. A custom tuned pipe will also be built, specifically for this motor based on the intake and exhaust port timings, port size, rpms and all that stuff (yay javapipe calculator). i will also be replacing the head bolts with better hardware and some other minor tweaks mechanically and cosmetically. todays progress was turning it into a functional bike again! i still have to install the rear brake and get a new cable for the 3 speed hub. time for pics

Re: My cruiser BTR projectjust bought fiberglass mat and resin, expect exciting things (and more pictures) in a few days!
Re: My cruiser BTR projectSweet. Just make sure you don't make the same mistake I did, and do that in a small room with no ventilation
Re: My cruiser BTR projectI've worked with fiberglass a little before, and I'm VERY familiar with working with plastics and body fillers, epoxies and the like. this should be a breeze for me, lay up two halves separately , drill holes for the tank straps and glass in threaded pieces. glass in a brass filler neck and threaded bungs for the fuel line (with petcock) and a sight glass.sand the crap out of the insides and use an epoxy gas tank sealant on both sides separately then one more time after they were bonded together, make sure its sealed up good and not gonna degrade.
on an unrelated note i hope to start doing some careful porting before too long, i'm excited to see what this motor is capable of

Re: My cruiser BTR projectnothing terribly exciting. i've gotten the little tecumseh torn down most of the way. The only holdup is I dont have a correct size external torx socket to remove the connecting rod from the crank, so the rotating assembly is still in the motor. once i get that out i can start porting. I've been doing a lot of reading the last couple days on the ups and downs, ins and outs of 2 stroke tuning. unfortunately most of that information is directed towards the dirtbike end of the spectrum. Not the lawn implement end
Re: My cruiser BTR projectSorry man, the little experience I've got is with 4 stroke engines, but I'm sure that there's somebody here that can help.

Re: My cruiser BTR projectmanaged to snag some pictures of the motor showing the port shapes and positions. i've already figured out several areas where i can make a pretty significant improvement to the flow characteristics of this motor. i'm probably going to be pretty conservative with the porting, just trying to make everything nice smooth and even. i'm after a good running engine, not a 10hp monster lol

Re: My cruiser BTR projectI have the exact same bike with the same color but it didn't have the chain guard or even the rear fender, I hope you didn't get rid of the stuff your not using because I might get some interest in them.
What happened to this build and is there any info you have from this bike like did yours still have the sticker above the bottom bracket & what did it say, what did the chain guard say? ![]()
Re: My cruiser BTR projectIt is a western flier trophy. the fenders are in pretty rough shape but the chain guard is OK, still have all the parts. i plan on picking up this project again after i get some paychecks saved and can afford a welder! this should make things a lot easier and allow me to really improve the strength of the frame with some gusseting and reinforcing. the forks are going to get EXTENSIVE reworking, and possibly getting widened. the motor will be getting pretty minimal porting after i can get it torn down the rest of the way.
