Primed For Renewal -1950 Columbia 5 Star

Postby TheFlyingDingo on Tue May 11, 2010 5:48 pm

Well, Of course, Im in but it doesnt mean im going to finish. Theres lots of different styles i want to go for. Lets see:
Klunker
Mountain
Pure Rat
Hot Rod
Rat Rod
BMX
Old School

And those could potentially intertwine to make a super "Genre" of bicycle. But to truly be in, i need to make a selection of frame...
I might end up building a bike around a single part...I missed out on a set of Noleen Forks on ebay (DARN YOU SCHOOL!) and theres a wasp im looking into getting.

Oh boy...It might be a while until i make a selection

I am now having a difficult time dating this thing...

It said 1950 on the serial number charts-but all of the other 1950s have a plain jane two tone chainguard.
This one, Is also two tone (and striped) but has multiple stripes and scallops.

I saw that there are multiple models of the 5 Star-Like Thunderbolt and Superb.

Tear down may commence tomorrow, depending on my friend. She wants to use the bike in a photo shoot but it seems she may be too tied up with work. Its not like i cant give her another bike

Not unless you DIY..."9. Paint must be applied by builder." Someone else asked that question, and there are "home" powdercoat kits out there...http://www.eastwood.com/catalog/product/view/id/3747/s/hotcoat-powder-single-stage-reflective-chrome/category/171/

does the hub have a date stamped on it?

if its a serial number, see if theres a year (couple numbers) that match those in the frames serial number.

might give you a clue to the date.
