I have my old Lincoln bike and I am going to build off of that.
Donor parts off of a girls bike and some prep work. Lots of work...
My first build off too!
I'll get pics of the progress later.
Take care everyone.

Rollin' RustyI finally got off my lazy butt and decided to get something done!

Re: Rollin' RustyI got a lot of work done on it today, mainly getting it together and making sure it all works before I go and do any fine-detail work.
It turns out the rims are the Schwinn wide wheels. Do those need special tires or would some standards from the LBS fit? This is the bike before...its it rusted solid state. ![]() After a long day of work and stealing parts from a girls bike (Both wheels). ![]() ![]() Only did a rough wire brushing over the whole bike. Break off the loose rust and clean the surface rust off of the chrome. Mark-
Re: Rollin' RustyI'm diggin it. Hope you're gonna leave all that natutal aged patina!
The day you stop learning is the day you step foot in the grave.
Re: Rollin' RustyYup, going to wet sand it a little, to smooth it out and then redo the details on it. Then Clearcoat!
I think I'm going to put some blackwall tires on it. Or Red? What do ya'll think?
Re: Rollin' RustyIf the rims are S-2 any tire will fit. If its S-7 you have to get a special tire. They look like S-2's to me.
Re: Rollin' RustyAs I recall, S-7 rims have a smooth flat bead surface, those look like hook bead from here.
it's all about the bikes, man. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50053
I was going to update my sig line, but I'm not seein' anything worth plagiarizing right now.
Re: Rollin' RustyI like the idea of a clear-coat. I would recomend Tremclad clear anti rust paint, so the rust wouldn't keep advancing, but I'd test spray on something that wouldn't show too much if the paint wasn't compatible. (inside the rear wheel?)
I'm waiting to see the finished bike... good luck!
Re: Rollin' Rusty
Yeah, it has the lip on the sides.
Re: Rollin' RustyI can't really decide on what tires I want to use! All black tires, white walls, all white tires? Maybe red tires?
So many choices! What you all think?
Re: Rollin' RustyAnything, as long as they're rust-stained.

Re: Rollin' Rusty
Well, I just so happened to have a set of a junk bike in back. Rust stained, dirty, and low miles. Perfect! Now that I had tires I went and made it ride-able. Chain is being a pain, needs to be a half link shorter as its a bit too loose/long but besides that its good. Had to add about 5 links to make the chain fit somewhat properly (Chain is off of a girls bike) It rides nice and goes pretty good too, just its uncomfortable for me. May have to go with the handlebars back in the normal position. I want it to look cool but I want it to be a nice and comfortable ride. Total cost so far... $0.00 ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: Rollin' Rustyyou could put in a half-link. they're magical.

Re: Rollin' RustyOk, seat post broke on me. Apparently my welds of the support bar weren't all that good...
I am going with the old seat post before I hurt something. I also have a set of different handle bars on it now. A bit wider. Well, off to the LBS, need some parts.
Re: Rollin' RustyI did end up taking it on a bike ride for a few miles. Was a good ride!
Here is a crummy cell phone pic. ![]()
