Re: Royal GuardCritters don't look too happy about it.
Re: Royal GuardI love it. What's that on the top tube , a cable clamp? Great find.
Re: Royal GuardIf that's a sturmey archer hub there might be date on it. The brits stopped putting lube ports on the BB shell in the early 60s so it's a least that old....nice find.
Re: Royal GuardI have'nt checked the date yet but it's got a port and it's a free wheel? all the S/A three speeds I've ever seen were foot brake. Does that mean anything?

Re: Royal GuardPlenty freewheelers were made, probably fewer of them saved.
Re: Royal Guardof all the 3 speed SA hubs I've worked on....probably a 100 or so, only one was beyond bringing back with some fresh oil. If it's been sitting for awhile like yours I recommend Marvel Mystery Oil, you can get it at most auto parts stores. Shoot some fresh oil into the lube port on the hub, don't worry about putting too much in there because it will just leak out. While your at it shoot some in that BB hole. Spray some WD40 type lube into the hollow axle on the drive side then thread in the shifter chain and run it through the gears. You can just finger pull the chain if there is no shifter.
