I LOVE IT!!! Some good history there. I guess there was a time when the bicycle was regarded as a serious substitute the motor car, not that it isn't now, I guess you just don't really see ladies in office gear riding through the streets... just hairy dudes in spandex... uuuurrrggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Oh yeah, and is it just me, or were mud guards invented AFTER tarmac was invented...? It would have been a pretty grubby ride to work in the morning!

Has anyone played with the new "TIME-LIFE" Photo archives on google now?
"Search millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1750s to today. Most were never published and are now available for the first time through the joint work of LIFE and Google"

Check out the bars on 95% of these bikes. Can you say "peer pressure"? 8) This is Chicago, and I'm guessing late 30's or maybe 40's even. Look how high the seats are jacked up on some of those bikes. B607

That is one of the coolest group pics of bikes I've ever seen. Any details?

reminds me of when everyone used to flip the bars on the 10 speeds back in the day.
