Thanks Tater! I've got to find the appropriate photo shoot spot for this. Something with a long strip of tar.....race banners...tire smoke in the back ground. Hmmm... Thanks for the inspiration!
A thought, If your local speedway is anything like ours, at dawn on any given day they aren't running cars down the drag strip. Here, If you know the correct route you can ride a bike right down between burnout area and start line to get the Christmas tree in the background.

You could get those early morning horizontal shadows at golden hour if it's a south / north strip .

An abandoned drag strip would be even cooler. I know there are quite a few across the Midwest.

Okay, now you've got me thinking Chewy! I just did a search, and found an active drag strip in outside of Eau Claire , WI only about 1 hr 15 mins away. Big event there this coming wknd! Might be a good photo op if I can get RG next to some real gassers / track / banners / etc.

My weekend plans for Father's Day just got busier!

Rock Falls!! Been there many times

Capt, wth? Now you've got a story to tell!

Born and raised in Wisconsin for my first 36 years. I've ridden and raced all sorts of mannerisms of 2 and 4 wheels (and even some watercraft)

We used to bounce between Byron, Great Lakes, and Rock Falls during those drag racing days

Put the back wheel in a trainer so you can pedal it. Then light the smoke bomb. Once the smoke is thick enough to conceal the stand pedal the bike while someone videos you.

Such a cool build! As a muscle-car enthusiast, ex-street racer I dig this build and how it ties in to the awesome Southern CA '60's car culture and Big Daddy Roth, and the whole hot-rodding car culture prevalent in this country today. Having worked at Mattel for the last 13 years I have seen and learned much about Spectra-flame jobs, and yours came out great! You can't beat a gasser for attitude and stance.

Now that's a heavily weighted compliment coming from a Mattel guy from SoCal with racing and Roth pedigree! Thanks!

I love gassers and your bike hits it on the nose! Here is a work in progress 55’ I’m customizing. Another hobby I love.

I had to read back a few pages OJ, but those headers and fake welds look sick!
My thoughts about the first picture I saw was: Wouldnt steel be too heavy? :giggle: But then I saw the process... very creative!

Next thing will be something like this? (It involves gass ;) )

David, that custom car model is kool! As a result of my build this year, we have a few guys interested in doing a Weird-Ohs Rat Model build off this Fall, after the BO 15 is done. It will involve using more than one model kit, a car kit of some kind and a Weird-Ohs or Rat Fink style kit, and / or scratch built parts. Let me know if you are interested, I'll add you to the list!

Thanks BRE ! Your 'flames' vid gives me an idea.... off to Youtube I go! :p

RaTs GaSs build Day 48

My panel sticker came from a new vendor to me called makestickers.com. I was pleased with their work and quick turn around, so I pursued another option I have been thinking about for awhile.
Last year on Helen Wheels, I customized my own head badge using a steel panel, and my BACK40 bikes logo sublimated on it, and then using a peroxide mix, ate away at the plate until the logo was 'relieved' on top. It was a fun process, albeit toxic and smelly, but the badge wasn't quite as crisp and clean and easily produced as I had hoped.

And the size was too big, but with the intricate detail, I didn't want to go smaller.

So I had them make a 'car sticker' with my new design, adding an oval surround, and lengthening the logo by taking down the sides a bit, to get a better fit on a bicycle head tube. I am pleased with the result. And, I can faux-tina the aluminum back plate to fit some of my more RaT-isfying bike builds; if you catch my drift.

The sticker, as they arrived from the printer:

Then the exacto knife was 'enabled':

Placed the whole sticker on the aluminum sheet and traced around the edge, then cut with my metal sheers:

Stuck the sticker on the back plate, and mounted to RG with JB Weld.

The sun's just coming up over the BACK40 through the RG's window. See what the new day brings....

Call ahead and see if they will let you out on the strip early before the event for some photos. I was able to do that a few years ago with my bike!
