I have been trying to come up with a build name my grandkids were over few days ago. My granddaughter asked me if i was building a bike like papas taxi I said kinda like it but this was for me to ride. So she said so this is papa's ride so that's where name came from.
The starting point is the same as 2 other builds mid 60's rollfast stepthrough.

Got it stripped down and ready for the gender change and 3 inch stretch. First up the stretch.

Made some more progress cut out the twin top tubes and used my bender to reconfigure then extended with the ones I cut off papas taxi. Put some tires, handle bars and seat so I could visualize how things were looking.

Trying to decide on wheels have everything for this shimano 3CC set

Or I have this nexus inner 4 wheel but none of the linkage or shifter or a matching front. Not sure what all is missing if anyone could let me know.

The inner 4 shifters are hard to come by ?

Got a good one going here Brian for sure! I used a Shimano 4 spd hub on my Trans-MIG-RaT last year. Hooked it up to an old friction stem shifter and it works fine. Remember that it is a progressive shifting, so 1st gear is your 1 : 1 ratio, and the other gears get progressively harder to pedal. You will likely use a smaller than normal chain ring to accommodate for that, as I did.

Looks like the new digs are working out well! RaT oN~!

Not a problem. you can use nexus 7 shifter and cable parts. Same throw between gears just use the first 4 positions. :)

If that is the case, you can also use any vintage friction shifter and just feel your way between gears. I used a vitnage muscle bike 5 speed shifter on Flexy with a Nexus7 hub.

You could use a friction shifter, but I have never done it. I read that partial engagement of internal gear hubs can damage them.

Yeah learned that with papas taxi 3 speed flat ground was ok but any incline was a workout still need to put a smaller one on it.

Not much progress lately was planning on getting A lot done today but rain on and off all day so couldn't get any welding done. Did manage to get about an hour in today didn't like the way the middle tube just ended all open. So I cut so I made some cuts.

Gave it some persuasion with a hammer
20200524_201312.jpg

Then cut a filler piece to make it blend into the seat tube

Just need to do some more fitting and some welding then weld in the top tubes.

Only worked a half day yesterday so I got some time to work on my build. Got the top tubes welded in place then cut some plates for the seat and chain stays to help stiffen the rear.
