Klunker-esque build question particularly frame choice

Are there any things I can do to make a smaller frame fit me better?
The basics have been covered, but...what lengthens out the cockpit the most comfortably for me is using a bmx bar as opposed to a cruiser or motocross bar. You leave the world of klunker a bit and enter the world of strandie/bmx cruiser...but, a longer reach stem and 8-10" tall bar gives you a ton of room to move around.

Comfort level probably depends a lot if you come from the bmx world or the mountain bike world.

True. Can get like a profile xxl wedge stem.
Or convert to 1 1/8, then I would think there would be all kinds of stem lengths.

Don't do and "esque" build - build a real klunker!

Look around this FB group....... https://www.facebook.com/groups/Klunkerz/?ref=bookmarks

Here is where I got all my passion............. http://clunkers.net/

There is a wide range of rides on that site - just depends on your nature of parts and desires......

Ok so I have thought about this some more. It seems like an extended strengthened seat post plus BMX riser bars should make a standard cruiser frame work for me. I basically want to build a rigid single speed mountain bike but using a cruiser frame.

What cruiser frames are there out there that have 1 1/8" forks and track ends? I know the Felt cruiser single speed does.

Old Chicago schwinn and worksman can both be adapted to take 1 1/8" I've done both. The newer schwinn heavy duti I think takes it also. There are a couple style shd frames, I'm not sure if they all take it.

For modern bikes...Kona Humuhumunukunukuapua'a or A'ha. Both have cruiser looks but are modern (mid-90s and up) and mountain capable. You mentioned the Felt (I assume Rail and Burner), the Electro Moto is pretty much the same frame. There are plenty of oddball frames out there that would make cool klunker/strandie/bmx cruisers...I recently ran across a full chromoly FILA cruiser (cantilever) from the 80s, and I have a Jamis Earth Cruiser that is aluminum framed (also cantilever).

Old bikes...almost anything can be made to work. Check out the SILVERKINGPC 21st Century Hawthorne Flyer...

It isn't the exact style you are looking for, but stem & bars and you are pretty much there.

Looking forward to seeing what you end up with :)

I am just watching the local Craigslist and some near by and when something comes up for a decent price I'll grab. Probably not for a couple months though cause I am going to be blowing all my spare change on a nicer mountain bike.
