Scored this 1950s Columbia Newsboy Special this morning.

Hmmm... Looks like maybe 1973-74 model. Six spoke sprocket. No oiler on chainguard. No truss rods. I had a similar bike and also thought it was much older when I traded for it. But still a great bike that will hold a big tire!

Thanks for the insight. I didn't realize they made them that late. The wheelset is definitely different from what I had on Firewing. But the fenders look just about the same. The guard definitely has a 60s-70s vibe. Hard to tell much with the paint.

Had a great biz trip to Atlanta this week. In addition to all the business, I also got to do some bitness! On Monday I got to meet up with @Dr. Tankenstein and talk bikes in his shop while picking up the pink Felt Chief from him.

Then this morning I rode outside of Atlanta and picked up this craigslist score. It's a RJ Custom low chopper with Lit'l Bill paint job.

I keep finding cool bikes! Check out this minty fresh Murray built Federal's III purple girl's 3 speed 24" muscle bike with Carlisle red line tires on it. I haven't even cleaned this one yet. She is a beauty!!!!

Check those when you get them, the ones I got last year were a bit hard to turn at first. One kept backing out of the crank. I had to use loctite til they loosened up.

They are good quality tho.

They are easily serviceable too. I used a set like this on Firewing, but I changed out the blocks for brick red ones.
