The first rat rod bike I built I gave the nickname 'Smooth Criminal'...partly for the flat black and white color scheme and partly because I like the idea of my bike having theme music. So my build off bike this year is a nod to the R.E.M. classic "Orange Crush". It will start with one of my 40's Sunshine frames...

I have a few parts that may or may not end up on the final ride.

This vintage sign will determine my color scheme...

Re: I've Got My Spine, I've Got My Orange Crush

Thanks. It has been hard to not work on this bike until May. Not anticipating a win, but looking forward to the fun of building a bike with a theme and knowing many others are spending late nights in the garage as well. Enjoy your builds everyone! Here is a photo that will inspire/inform this build.

Re: I've Got My Spine, I've Got My Orange Crush

Whilst out and about this day, popped in to a couple of antique places and picked up some vintage Orange Crush stuff.
First this is going to be the colors for the bike (brown, orange and white) and I may have to find a place for this super cool bottle.

Next up is one I got really cheap (and found first)...may or may not be incoporated into the build...

And lastly an original unopened bottle of Crush...I have plans for this (I will keep that under wraps until I am sure I can pull it off.)

If only I could spend all day every day in the garage...

Cool old stuff.

I looked through your past post for an introduction post, curious about your name since I use to have some Poor Old Lu CDs.

Looks like the WalMart assembler struck again!!!!!

I just got your comment...HAHA. The bars are not attached and the forks must have spun around when I put it in the shed. I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how my stuff looked Wal-Marty. :)

Re: I've Got My Spine, I've Got My Orange Crush (update-May 5)

Hope to get some color on my rims this weekend...
Here is how it started a few hours ago...

And after some serious elbow grease...

Need to finish the rear and hopefully get color down...I will post pics with the new kicks as soon as they are done.

Re: I've Got My Spine, I've Got My Orange Crush (update-May 5)

Use the brown bottle as your tank. Take a look at my BO6 bike BEER RUN for reference.

Looks like there is a rock band sub build off going on here.
So far, I have seen Skynyrd, Stones, Grand Funk, and now REM

Re: I've Got My Spine, I've Got My Orange Crush (May 8-Trike?)

So I did not get paint on the rims this weekend...I have been distracted working on a trike for my niece (her 1st birthday is in ten days).
Here are a couple of pics...it is a 1930's? Werlich.
This is how it looked when I picked it up...

Re: I've Got My Spine, I've Got My Orange Crush (May 8-Trike?)

I did manage to do a little work on my bike as well. Thanks to dragnusa for the idea of the tail light. I came up with this...

IMG_0938.jpg

I purchased this light fute from Canadian Tire...

IMG_0940.jpg

I removed the casing...

IMG_0942.jpg

Ground the end down with my angle grinder...

And let there be light...

Now to think of a secure (and subtle) way to attach this to the bike.
