Good Morning, picked this bike up this fall and I am not sure what it is. I was drawn to the "hood" fender ornament on the front. Thought it was a cool bike. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Yours is a Murray built bike, from 1958 or later. If that chainguard is original, it was likely a JC Higgins for Sears. If so, it will be stamped 'MOD 502' on the rear brake arm side dropout. That was Murray's code for a bike built for Sears. There may be a 5 or 6 digit number after that, which is the Sears catalog #. Sometimes, it can be matched to a specific year. -Adam

Thanks Adam, appreciate the help. Do you think the front fender is original to the bike? Kip

Probably not. Looks like it has painted rims, which generally go w/painted fenders. The front looks like a stainless balloon tire fender, though I've never seen an ornament like that, or heard of the name. -Adam
