I knew it was a JC Higgins. Today I finally took to sanding the tank. I was on it about an hour, ready to go in for dinner and started sanding the logo area. I was surprised to see that JC Higgins began to appear from underneath all that red, white, green, red paint. I have confirmed finally that this bike (the frame, tank, neck/bars at least) is a JC Higgins. I will be using the winter to resto this bike. Not one of those anal O.E.M. bikes, but a nice custom rod/cruiser. Enjoy!
What's weird about this logo is that there's no paint behind it. It appears to be metal finish behind it. That seems odd to me. You'd think there'd be paint behind there. ??? Anyone have any ideas?
For those who care, here's some pics of the bike pre-resto rod
