Evans Bicycles

Can anyone point me to any info on Evans Bicycles out of Plymouth Michigan? Looking locally at an Evans Interceptor 100 from the late 50's / early 60's...

Evans bought out Colson in 1954. There were a few years of 'transitional' bikes as they used up the generally unique Colson parts. They brough out their own middleweight designs, with a neat 'laid-foward' looking cantilever frame, and had some interesting features such as squared-off fenders! Most of their advertising pitched automotive styling on their bikes. I have 3 or 4 of them in my pile. ~Adam

Got it home late and didn't get any of my own pics yet. Is it possible to determine the year by the serial number?

Sorry, I have no idea on the serial numbers. I know that the Plymouth historical society has a small display on the Evans company. You might give them a call. They have a huge archive of Plymouth history. Daisy BB guns were also made in Plymouth (more useless trivia!).

Recently acquired this for my Girlfriend. 24" Evans Viscount 400 24"
Only seems to be missing the headlight and one of the rubber inserts on the RH pedal.

Any info, insight appreciated on locating a proper headlight and such

Do you know if they made a tank for your black bike in the middle picture?

My first bike was a 24" Evans, probably a Scout. It was bought second hand, and was painted all black. No tank. I rode it from 1962 to 1965, until the pedals were just spindles and the rear axle broke. I never knew what kind of bike it was until I came here. It had the long curved rear rack that could hold 2 extra kids.

An Evan or Evans license plate may be easier to find than a Colson, (or a tank accessory).

But maybe not one for Michigan State.
