Brilliant springer work
Love those tapered layers of sexy rust.

Working on ideas for my springer strut rods...I tried to think what's strong enough to provide structure while small enough to not overpower or take away from the spring and fork??? Looked high and low, through old forks, surplus flat stock, Murray rear rack stays...but nothing was quite right. That is, until I stared at the spring....then it hit me!!! What about more A parts!!! Ran down to my stash (in the rain, mind you) and came back to the garage with...mechanical brake actuator rods!!!

They're small diameter, plenty long, and have trick little ends!!!

So at the moment, I have some threaded ends soaking in Evapo-Rust overnight, in hopes that they MIGHT spin off!!

There were discussions on making the leaf spring functional, but the fork-end mount was a question. Here is the "solid" end of the spring at the fork...

...and the bottom of the fork at the axle...

On the eye end of the spring, I have a piece of aluminum round stock for a bushing/anchor point for the strut rods.

Any and all suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Got the Model A brake rods apart and chased the threads...

I may still have some bits-n-bobs left in these brake actuators....

Love the spring, and I'm guessing it'll get better from here. Nice work. Keep that bike off of old rickety bridges, however.

Why'd you say that?

Because it looks like it's going to weigh as much as a Buick Estate Wagon. An extremely cool Buick Estate Wagon. My envy has manifested itself through weak humor.

Are you going to make rockers and connect the brake rods to them, then connect the other end to loop of the spring to make your trusses?

It's actually not that bad! Doesn't weigh as much as a Schwinn Varsity!!!

Does this Varsity make me look fat?

Can't wait to see how you use all these Model A parts.

Made a little time while getting some bikes together for a hot rod drags show/swap in SC (Steel in Motion for all you hot rod types), And I pieced together the driveline for ElgIndian.

Then I pulled these grips from my stash...

Gotta assemble the jigsaw puzzle that is my front fork/spring and fabricate/mount my seat spring...
