Thought I would give it a try...so sand packed the tube. Put in the vice and got it rosy red with the torch. Bent like butter with a pipe slid over it. No bend marks....Rides so much more comfortable...and saved me 20 bucks.

Ok, then I'll explain. The quill was a little slim for the seatpost tube, but for some reason, it fits in the steerer tube of the fork perfectly. Solution? Chop off the steerer and use it as a shim. Longer seatpost is the bonus. I left the threaded portion to show off how ingenious I is. For some laughs, here's the finished product, complete with 501 seat cover, with and without genuine leather retaining strap.
