Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love

Got some good riding time in today, really loving this bike. Found we have a new bike shop downtown that sells new Kona bikes, but the owner also had a decent stash of vintage bikes too! Even has an original Monark fork...tempted. The guys were very cool and loved the bike...probably gonna be in there a lot this summer :)
They also have a cruiser club that meets during the local downtown Tuesday night farmers market so I'll definitely roll out to that.

I also dropped by the local Saturday night cruise in, a few of the hot rod guys are Ito old cruisers too...this thing got all kinds of antention :) pretty stoked on all the love it's getting, and .... proud to have something that's very unique, especially arond here.

Very cool and creative build :D ....love your color combo!

Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love

Love what you did with this. Very elegant, but simple. Kudos!

Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love

Looking good.I have been thinking of doing something similar soon. Where are you located? that green c-10 looks like one in my area. Keep up the good work.

In the wet and windy pacific northwest...about as far from Florida as it gets :p

Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love

i think it would be cool to have a "cruise"night on bicycles. My family and i are mini-truckers, and when we cruise its usually about a half an inch off the ground in awesome trucks. Need to get us out more on them bikes tho....maybe ill wait til the summer ends tho! Glad to see your enjoying that purty gold bike you built, i bet it rides so smooth with those tires!

Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love

Oh man, so ...... smooth! The spring works really well with the my weight more over the front like it is. It really takes the bite out of crappy roads and sidewalks.

Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love

Well dammit, it's done, I love it, and now I have the "build project jones"...need to build another!!!!

Well, my new project needed the springer more than this bike did, so I installed the stock fork...I'll be honest, if I'd ever put this fork on, I probably wouldn't have used the springer. I really really like how it looks and rides with the stock fork. (though not as Caddillac like as before :) )

(New bike that stole the fork here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=73589)

I also swapped to some older bars and chopped the length down a bit, but haven't snapped a photo since. I'll get some new shots at the hot rod kulture show next weekend.

So stoked! I won "Best Custom" at the Pedal Old Metal bike show in town yesterday.

Thank you so much! I' was really pretty surprised and flattered. I honestly figured most people woudn't know what to make of the Schwinn or how much subtle work went into it, especially since it was peoples choice. It definitely felt good to win one of the categories.
