that works or you can cut it down and rethread( make sure you can get a hold of the right die or find someone who can before though)

Sensor, you rock. thats exactly what i am going to do.
Cut a section of the steering tube out and reweld it with an inside sleeve.

awesome.

Re: Changed my mind. "Black Coffee"

i just ordered some wheels.

this is my splurge for this bike. i have most everything else already.

Can that guy be trusted in that thread?

Don't cut the top off if it has that slot in the back or it will deform when you put the nut on (maybe). I'd bob the lower section and weld it back on useing that guy's thread as a guide.

naw graylock, i am going to use your method. cut an inch out of the lower part of the tube, sleeve in a narrower tube and weld it around, then grind it all down.

Re: Black Coffee (parts coming 5/18)

nope!!! you cant trust greylock!!! :p
just make sure you leave enough room to have the stem where you want it when you sleeve it(i.e. if the sleeve is too long you might not be able to drop it all the way in if you want to)

Re: Black Coffee (parts coming 5/18)

if that was my fork i would do it the proper, safe, bike shop way- no trusting welds at the fork crown- I would cut the thread so it extends further down, leaving ALL the length on the steerer, then wind the race on, add a nice 1 inch fork SPACER (threaded or not, it shouldnt matter) under the spring bracket, and then put the keyed ring and locknut onto the top where you STILL have a slot. easy!
