I'm a BMX guy so my best find this year was an '87 Venture GT. Had some help from the guys at BMX museum to Identify this one. Best part are the tires; rainbow logo NOS Mitsuboshi Tioga Comp III with whiskers still. $14 was a steal. This year just got off to a good start, down here theres pretty slim pickins on Schwinns and other vintage cruisers. I just ran across, from first looks, a Roadmaster 26" Ill check back in for help on dating it if i can get my hands on it. This year Im setting my sights on vintage, we'll see where this takes me.

...and of course, this bikes going to be saved for my greatest acquisition of 2011, my newborn son.

Bought this off CL for $110. Seat is one I bought off somebody on RRB. Fenders are off now and I am thinking of putting a red (or terra cotta) colored tire on the front and an all black tire on the back---to echo the frame paint. It's a nice rider that will be even better with new tires.

I'm a BMX'r at heart but love all bikes. Here's my fave of the year plus a few others I came across.......

Predator TC picked up a thrift store for $6.00. Cleaned, lubed and replaced the trashed tires. Rides fast and smooth!

Schwinn Scrambler I found on Craigslist. Lester MAGS. Can't wait to get to this one.

Columbia Freestyle 9.5. Another Craigslist find. This one has been completely redone but oddly, I have yet to get a picture of it complete.

Ride Hard by Roadmaster. Fun inexpensive ($10.00) Craigslist bike that rides surprisingly well.

Being of limited resources and space I have only purchased two bikes this year. But to me they are both awesome!

First I found this bike for my wife.

Then
AntiqueHawthorne01.jpg

It's the Ladies version of my first vintage bike (The Scarlet Groundhog) a mid to late sixties Hawthorne. It was really just in need of a LOT of cleaning. I got it for $40.00 and they threw in and antique Ukulele to boot!!!

NOW!

She said all she wanted was a bell and a basket.

The second was for me...I wanted something to Rat Out and be a daily rider. I wanted at least a 5-speed and found this on Craig's List...MY FIRST SCHWINN!!! A 1981 Cruiser 5!

As I brought it home...

and cleaned up with the silly foam off of the handlebars...

I got it for $40.00 as well. I have plans for this one!

Got these two Phat Cycle bikes off of CR. Guy said he won them on Price is Right. They were in pretty rough shape, but I got them both for $100 so I was happy. Worked on the yellow one...you can see "after" pics below.

I picked this out of the garbage as you see it.
Before:

I added a 700 c front wheel & tire, a 24" x 3" slick to the rear, added a 5 speed muscle bike shifter coming out of a slot that i cut in the tank, stripped and re-painted the tank and fender, stripped the paint from the chainguard, got rid of all the rust on the chrome , added a set of polished aluminum moutain bike bars anbd a set of chrome grips. And of corse I cleaned all the bearings, (wheels, cranks and headset) regreased and adjusted everything, and added new cables.

After (i strill need to get better pics of it outside in the sun).

HOLY COW!!! This brings back memories.... I had a neighborhood friend back in 74 or 75 who owned one of these. Everyone was so envious of him.

This year my collection became complete, except for the few and very far between vintage bikes I want but can't afford.
First off is the custom Electra Ghostrider. I scoured Craigslist daily for over 1.5 years until I finally found it. Lucky for me that the damaged parts of the bike (that dropped the price way, way down) are the same parts I wanted to replace anyway. I love this bike!!

Next is a Columbia RX-5 repro bike that I scored for pretty cheap. I changed the headlight out to a more authentic one for the era and plan on replacing the rear hub with a Bendix red-band kickback later this month. The only reason there is a bell on it right now is because the horn doesn't work.
