Hey everyone,

I bought this Columbia frame this past year and it came with the crankset, headtube cups, kickstand and seatpost. Not much else to work with. I had too many projects at home to deal with first before I can put it together with bits that I had lying around to build a klunker/rider, so here we go....

Frame: 58 Columbia Fire Arrow
Fork: Schwinn Sidewinder Fork
Wheels: Chrome Unstamped Schwinn S2 wheels, Bendix 76 and high flange Schwinn front hub
Tires: 26x2.175 Duro MTB Gumwalls
Bottom Bracket: American to Euro adapter w/Shimano UN-26 127.5mm spacing square taper
Crankset: Sugino Super Maxy 170mm length cranks w/42t Sugino chainring
Pedals: MTB Platform eBay CNC Pedlas
Handlebars: Vintage Suzuki Moto Bars
Stem: SR Slingshot Double Clamp

I’m not sold on the stem yet, but I need to see it all come together first to make a decision on changing it. I still need to purchase an extra-long 5/8 seatpost and seat. Might strip the paint since it’s already flaking off on the chainstays, we’ll see.

That looks amazing already!
I am a total sucker for these types of builds, and then add in gumwalls...
Thanks man!
Lookin great man! I love those bars.

I say leave the paint. It looks pretty dang good

I think you're right on the paint, it started to really grow on me. I did sit and think of all the work in breaking down the bike again, stripping the paint, sending it for paint (or spray bombing it) and getting it back together for a rider. I'll just try and preserve the paint that's already on there from further flaking.

Good call. I really like the color. Just dab some dollar store nail polish on the paint chips and ride like the wind! You're likely to find some pretty close matches.
I'm gonna dig thru my wife's nail polish box and swipe a few blues to see what matches. I also have access to lots of vinyl for car wraps I might wrap the chain stays in a brushed aluminum color. Wrapping the chain stays in vinyl and not likeing the way it looks definately means that the paint will come off with the vinyl sticker glue. Post pictures later on today of the color.

Upgrade on the saddle. Green Apple B17 Brooks saddle. I will say that the idea was 100% inspired by @Robertk ‘s “The Amphibian” cruiser. If you haven’t seen that beauty, check it out here http://www.ratrodbikes.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-amphibian.106272/

Haven’t installed it yet, but I think the color combo is gonna look nice, but not every bike can pull off a green apple saddle. Post pics of the instal later tonight.

It does need something to tie it in, not feeling a set of green grips though. The green brooks grips aren’t my cup of tea.

I was leaning towards a set of green CroMo pedals like these.

We’ll see what pops up.

I’m a believer now in a good saddle for your rear. I know these Brooks have to be broken in, but after a 15 mile ride yesterday after installing it I didn’t get the same soreness from the previous cheap beater saddle that was on there.

Cheers!

I picked up a new solid aluminum seatpost from Atomic Cycles (GBP), I bent a Wald 945 on its first use. Either I’m a little on the heavier side, which I am, or things aren’t made like they use to be? Either way I got a red post to add a little more color to the Columbia. Post is about 15” w/a 7/8 top, sweet!

Green hub brushes would be a nice touch too.
There are also frame bags (supposed to rest on the top tube) that would fit your tank space.
Awesome bike, and those pedals are really cool. Great saddle too! Beautiful paint, glad you didn't change it.

Honestly I can't even picture what a hub brush is, unless it is exactly what that is. A hub brush? Do you have other pictures of bikes with these brushes on them?

I would like a top tube bag in the future, this little cheap ebay bag will hold all my un-necessary's for now. If you give me a bigger purse I'll just put more junk in it..
I'm glad I didn't paint it too, the color grew on me.
