"1942 SCHWINN VICTORY BIKE"

What exactly am I looking at here, and is it really anything all that "special"/rare? I've never seen/heard of a "Schwinn Victory Bike".

Of course, the title, basic black paint, and lackluster look leaves me thinking about home-front production in the time of the Second World War, so I'm sure it could be that old (also note decal along down tube). Does anyone/has anyone owned one of these, or know much about them? The style (esp. the peaked fenders) reminds me of a post-war bike, such as a Racer.

You can read on the frame New World.
Probably some parts are not original, like the wheels or stem

I have 2 new worlds. It's missing a chain guard and the wheels... Not sure if the stem is the right one, but cond like the previous poster said looks to be swapped.

They are nice bikes and the paint on this one is nice. Def a wartime bike from the dropouts etc. Would be interesting to see what type of GH bs the rims have. If they are blackout

I bought both of mine for $75 each and have seen these at shows for the same.

The paint is a plus in this case, but the bike is incomplete so I wouldn't go more than $75.

In great condition, all orig I've seen them go for $300 tippy top

That's how the situation seemed to me: and interesting example built at the right time, and which seemed incomplete, but rideable. Glad to hear what others have gotten/sold theirs for - it's still avaiable, but I'd never see myself going over the $75-100 mark for it, which means I'd probably never get it, anyway.

I've heard before of the significance Raleigh had toward the British war efforts and getting citizens around, and wasn't certain if a similar, domestic story was to be found with these types of Schwinn examples. Thanks for all the information!
