My dad found this today to use on the motorcycle we are building, I have never seen one and my dad said its off an old diesel train engine. Actually plan on using it on the gas tank but would love to find something like it for the oil tank. Any info on this would be great.




 
It looks like something you might find on an old whiskey or beer vat.
Has a cool steampunk vibe to it.
 
Found out a little info from a train collector friend, He said it most likely was from a steam engine train and was most likely made to order.
 
Could be. Most short line and yard engines were already burning oil by the time the diesel electric era arrived. As I mentioned upthread, that type of cap can still be found on the fuel tanks of some older machines.
