A very good friend of mine who loaned me the money to buy my truck has commissioned me to build her a bike. her two complaints about her previous bike, a Giant Commuter, were 1, that its wicked heavy, and 2, that its wicked ugly.

this girl is a jewelry designer, very hip, stylish.

i found the perfect base on Craigs. got it for $40.

ok, so the 28 x 1 1/2" wheels are going. too bulky, heavy, and a bit rough.
the rod brakes in the front also are going.
actually, the only parts i am reusing for this build are the frame, fork, cranks, pedals, chainguard.

here is the frame/fork almost stripped down for sandblasting.
anyone know how to remove these cranks? never seen an attachment like this.

i bought one of the Persons saddles for $58. comparable to my Brooks Flyer, but less than half the price.

got a new silver KMC chain and some Alloy Pyramid touring bars.

color scheme:
beige/tan frame, teal striping and graphics.
deep V rims laced to coaster brake on the back, painted teal.
cream Schwalbe 700c x 35c tires.
cork grips
front basket.

will post progress once more parts come in and frame is blasted.

forgot to add, i still owe her like $2000. this bike will knock off $800 of that.
got about $450 in parts going into it though.

see photos below....
i am open to ideas on how to stripe or accent the frame.
i never was able to get the crank off, but it has a grease hole and it still rolls well.
here is the frame after priming.

the straw on spoke masking method....first time trying it and love it.

gave the rims a light sanding with 400 grit before painting

jade painted on one side....cant wait to see it with the cream tires...
i put holes in my work surface to put the axles into so i could just spin the wheels slowly while painting.

the frame....i painted the chainring and crank first with a duplicolor metallic silver, then masked it all off to paint the frame.
here it is with 2 coats of the elm color.

That's a great frame. It may look good without anything extra. Maybe the head tube a different color, matching the wheels and flared a few inches down the tubes.

I did a search for Persons seats and didn't come up with anything. Where do you find them? I might buy 2 of them for my tandem.

Re: German Roadster Build - check out the completed wheels!!!

Nice find on those Persons saddles. :D Those wheels turned out really amazing. Which makes me wonder about this Duplicolor paint? I haven't seen it around and have just been using Rustoleum. I've heard a couple guys talking about Duplicolor--is it a better/tougher paint?

Duplicolor is kinda the same paint you see on the new cars. Just a cheaper version in a can. Check any auto store i guess. Or maybe order it online. I use it all the time.
