LaidBack - TransWorld Motobike Rat - Patinafication & Details - 85 Years

I had mentioned getting a part from Poland via eBay previously. @SpikeFC had asked about the part. I ended up not using it on the LaidBack Build. I did mock up a light for the Excelsior/Elgin side project I have going. The handlebar bracket is serving time there for now.

The lamp is a sealed beam, not sure if it still works or not.
The light and bracket were originally potential LaidBack parts.

The tool bag arrived from India, pretty good quality for the price. I had ordered another style which came damaged and in wrong color. Not much relief from seller.
Anyway I installed the second one.

Thinking I want to raise it up but no eyelets on saddle.
REVISION:
Dang...on looking at photos again there are a couple of loop projections on the bottom of the seat pan that the straps should feed through. So it will hopefully be raised.

I had forgotten the projected mount loops were there.

After tooling up and adjusting headset I headed to Eagle Lake about a 4 mile round trip. Once you get this puppy rolling it’s all pretty good. Even upgrades are pretty easy once you have some momentum going.

What did they do for water bottles in 1934?

Probably glass bottles, since plastic wasn't around yet.
I like those lake shots. Maybe #1 with the bike closer to the water, all your parts would show off well with that lake as a background. And, add to that 'TransWorld' adventurer vibe as well!

I just had a thought; we both have Trans and Rat in our bike names this year. How contemporary of us.

I think the early Tour de France riders used ceramic, metal or aluminum containers, even flasks?

Careful now, I’m old but not as old as the bike. I assume you’re right though except for the plastic canteen of Vietnam era. I’ve seen old canteens before in flea markets and antique stores, never really thought of a use.
I have this old canvas water bag, never been used. Think they were used in twenties thirties on cross country road trips for overheated radiators as well.

In Vietnam I remember getting water out of a big bag coated canvas hanging from a tripod stand.

As stated in my last post I think the TDF riders might have used ceramic or metal containers and the refilled them instead of tossing them away.
Yes the lake is easy to get to, and provides a clean backdrop. I don’t have a working camera at present and the phone does OK but really hard to see what you have in screen until after the fact. Not to mention the rocky surface for the gravel ride tires.
Think you posted the “Trans” moniker first. One relating to gender change, one to standard tire size evolution. Rat on!

They are made by Sigg and some time ago they even made a nice newer version of it.. ;-)
I have both. My new one manly carries water, the older one used to be filled with stronger stuff (after my service time, especially during rock festivals...) and was usually hooked up to the belt with a carbine
