LED headlight and bought some motorcycle headlight mounts but are too big so put some foam piping around the triple trees.

I'll show better pictures. I just took the guts of the light out & drilled a hole in the back of the light put put in an LED flash light.

That's my go-to for old light conversion as well. There are so many different sized LED flashlights out there, you can almost always find one that fits your needs. I have used them on all my build off bikes, except the Fisher CR7, because big ol' lights on a race MTB just ain't happenin'.
