Maybe you use one of those chrome plugs like I have seen at ace hardware for the stub if you could find one that would fit.
Yes Brian! I used two sizes of those on my Fisher CR7 Resto last year, good idea!

Keep the wood. Horizontal flames. Shorten shifter. Wooden shifter knob to match tank panel
Thanks Captain! My initial idea was horizontal flames, now I have two votes taking me back in that direction. And, if I keep the wood, I think a wood shift knob 'wood' be appropriate. It's funny, I was going to do a wooden bike build for this build off, and now wood is sneaking it's way into this one....

How short on the shift lever? So it's completely underneath the straight bar?

Horizontal flames routed/carved into the tank a few mm then given the butane treatment? Kinda ghost flames.
Ghost flames! I don't remember, were you in the BO #11 when I did ghost flames on my One-Liner build HnP?

Thanks for the idea!

I like the tank with the shifter!
If going without the tank, maybe a shorter shifter? It breaks up the lines of the frame at it's current length!
Thanks Luke! Yeah, it sounds like a shorter shift lever is getting votes from a few. So, short enough to be under the straight bar at it's highest arc? Would you shorten it, even if I used the wood insert?

Yep, I saw that yesterday. Waiting to see how you mount it!

Was also waiting to see if the stub gets completely covered. If not it might look good to cap it off with a hole plug from your hardware store.

Yep, used those on handlebar and bar ends on Fisher build last year.

I like it the length it is with the tank insert. Without the tank I would have the knob just equal with the lower tube at it's highest arc.

A cold blustery day here in Minnesota, rained all day here yesterday, we got about 3/4". Our temps hovered in the high 30's nearly all day. Unfortunately, for our neighbors just about 100 mi north of here, it was right at 30 degrees, and my sister-in-law watched this happen out her cabin window....

That's right, Mr Science, 1" of rain = 10" of snow.

On a much more cheery note, I got made some progress on the MIG-RaT yesterday and today. I took  to what a number of you said about shortening the shift lever (cue Norwegian saying from Video #2) and took it down so it now sits comfortably under the straight bar. It did dominate the look at it's full length, and fits better now I think.

Bonus points for anyone who can tell me what this clamp is originally intended for?

So with it all 'geared up', I took it out to my favorite neighborhood park to test the shifting, and ride of the bike.

Rides great! And I like how the shift lever is tucked in more into the frame this way. I will skip the bottom trumpet mute casing, it's too large for the length of the lever now.

When I got home, I checked the mail box just for the heck of it, and I found this ! YahoooOOOOooOOoo!

My post made by Chad at ChopShopCustomz ! I dug out my 'find' I got early one morning this past winter in AZ, and paired them up. The Brooks came with a 13/16 seat clamp, so you will notice the mounting extension was built up to fit that clamp. The rest of the post is a pretty standard 5/8" diameter.

It really helped stretch me out a bit, and adds a little 'stretch' to the look as well, @Glen .
So now the question remains, wood tank (with a mocked up flame cut out) or no wood tank. Please vote with your choice!

There are more ideas for additions to this build, paint decisions (or not) possibly one other 'tank insert' option, but this is where it stands as of now.

That picture just seems "right". Something about it all mocked up with no tank seems more pleasing

Ligature. What did I win? lol

I like the bike better without the tank, but it's your bike. Do what make you happy!

That's a bit of a stretch of the imagination... but I suppose so :39:

Do you have to stretch to reach the shifter?

No to wood, yes to flames... let's see you make that work!

Glen.

That's an option I was thinking of...floating flames! Give me a minute. :wink1:

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! Think of this as a cereal box top offer; your prize should arrive in 2-3 weeks. :wondering::bigsmile:

Your minute starts nnnnnnnnnnnnn now... being Friday the 10th of may at 9:48am.
Haha! I was using hipster language, Glen. You know, young people?

I have a millenial working on it for me. My soon-to-be step grand girl's husband, who works as a welder for a custom design firm.

And if you understand what I just said, please tell me, because I'm a little foggy. :D

I definitely like the tank version, maybe it depends on your final finish though.
