After back surgery wiped me out of the mbbo I figured I'd try this one. The starting point is a 1953 Firestone cruiser 99. (Monark built)

How it looked when it arrived at my house for the fantastic sum of 10 dollars.

A comparison shot of it next to my 47 monark klunker.

How it currently sits. Front wheel, home built front fender and braces and the handlebars were all pulled off a while back to toss into a load of scrap. Not sure what direction I'm even going at this point but wanted to get it posted so I could atleast finish tear down and start cleaning.

Nice deal loose wheel 10 bucks can’t beat that . Hope your back is feeling better . Now it’s time for some mental rehabilitation.
Have some fun .

Had an L5-S1 fusion a few years ago. It’s a long road to recovery, but worth it. Hang in there, follow the doc’s advice, and build bikes for sanity! You have a great base to start.

The first time I've seen a double nut for a seat clamp.

Have also never seen headset shims like these. Is that original?

Got all the gunk and sadly most of the paint cleaned off the drive side of the BB. Guessing that little broken tab used to be the chaingaurd mount and the reason for this lovely set up.

How today ended. I have to take a break after about an hour right now. The only thing I'm 100% sure of right now is the frame wont be repainted and I want to try and find a front fender even if I have too paint the fender too match!

You should call this build "Hamilton".
Nice score

Reaggravated my surgically repaired back so goal is too push for a last minute finish. Starting to think bike build offs are my kryptonite

With the wife's approval and a few stipulations about lifting things I've slowly managed to work on it in short periods. It's getting closer and closer. Just takes a few ghetto lifts and a friend to occasionally move the entire bike for me. Purple power and a razorblade have been the 2 most valuable tools this build.

Build direction changed with the budget at zero from being off work. It's now more urban bomber then originally planned. But building with parts laying around decided the style. Few small details and getting a friend to shakedown ride it for me soon!

Glad you have been able to squeeze some work in with your back and some help from friends. Keep rolling and get well!
