This is a 1948 Schwinn Spit-Fire that I found out in Meridian Idaho, in a barn that was condemned it was just hanging in the rafters.

Cool find, glad your leaving it original!
Love the repaired pedal block. I picture a dad in his shop fixing the pedal for his kid with what he could find laying around and then sending him back out to ride 30 minutes later!:cool2:

I can tell you it's still like that on the farm, (that's why we don't throw stuff away). Last thing you want to do is drop everything and take a trip to town to spend money you don't have. So you fix it with what you have around.

True Americana! That pedal alone is worth the price of admission.:113:

If you think that pedal is cool, go check out part 2 of the build and look at the front wheel it's a rear wheel some one modified to work as a front wheel.

I had been trying to figure that hub out. Looks like it has two brake arms.:39:

Yep it's one of those New Departure hubs that has all the little disc's in it but those have been removed, and the drive side gear has been removed as well and then replaced with a huge cone nut so that the bearings still run smooth. And the second arm is there as a spacer, then both arms are tied to the fork arm so they don't move.

Here she is in all of her ratty goodness, left it exactly like I found it just cleaned it and repacked the bearings.

And since it's a Spit-Fire I had to put some victory marks on there.
