Making no promises. Found these locally. Looked on a lark and bumped into a two for one deal.

Ray clearly saw action, was once blue, another odd mesinger seat, has no serial that I can find, has a busted rear fender mount so going BMX instead of muscle.

Fastback frame is a Sept ‘74...one of my favorite frames done up any style, muscle, BMX or even road.

No plan yet...was not planning on getting any more bikes...much less two.

Well, no one "plans" on getting more bikes, but here we all are... :)
You mean like this $60 Fairlady the same guy had? Got all 3 Schwinns for $160.

Already on this one. New owner isn’t a fan of banana seats or apes...those went to my fastback.

Rear triangle is pitted so planning to fade from blue to candy purple to black for the rear of the bike. Whitewalls needed.

Free tires from a doner bike. Hubs are good and one of the OG tubes still holds air. Rode it. Rides well for who knows how many years idle. Wonky crank...will replace at some point. Already getting use so might call it done for now & paint may wait. Painting the rear half fading from blue to kandy purple to black. Plan is to get new whitewalls down the road and refresh the rims & remove final rust from fenders then.

Hello, I'm stepping in as the interim-Admin for this build-off since Captain Awesome is indisposed. There is discussion of changing the completion deadline to accommodate more builders. We'd like your opinion. Please vote here: https://ratrodbikes.com/forum/index...out-extending-the-mbbo-bmxbo-deadline.112979/

Thank you, and KEEP BUILDING!

Thanks for stepping in CRASH! A push back would certainly help. I’ve not seen supply chain delays like these in my 18 years in shipping/receiving...I’m not going to complain, 2020, I know how nuts distribution is in a regular holiday/return season. I’ve tried to limit my ordering and use slower, less system taxing shipping since it all began. The shippers have extra seasonal help who will stay on so the vaccines get priority. 2021 is looking up already!

My bike work area is out of commission but I’m working on rectifying that now that there is a break in the chaos. New year correct crank is in for the ‘69 fair lady. Might get sanding done on the rear triangle today. After that, spray the triangle silver...fade a bit of flat black halfway to the dropouts & back...add strategically placed large individual glitter flecks while wet...fade in the metal cast blue at the seat post then fade purple 3/4 of the way back. No clear...so it looks like it was a muscle bike converted to a BMX way back in the day so I’m trying to keep the front half looking stock. Looking at whitewall BMX tire options. I would love to delete the fender...boss’ call.

My plans for the fastback are already moving in a different direction. It deserves a proper build instead of contender for the seriously least effort award. Sting BMX on the horizon but I doubt in time.

Not sure if the ‘naner stays but these bars were the most stable. Nimble little guy, tires pumped to 80 and it rolls better than most in the stable.

Hi yo silver! This saddle is overstuffed and sized better...gonna need it.

I made a choice to spend nothing on this bike. My experiment is to just use stuff that I have or was intended for the other bike that didn’t work out. I stitched together the chain from a rusty chain and a far more rusty chain. Tiny pedals, saddle, sissy bar and reflector were from the red bike. Bar was like a foot taller then. Lucky 7 and crank from the mudray, wheels and tires from a Murray BMX. Almost complete...missing a BMX hallmark...that pad on the top tube. I don’t know what everyone else called them but I called them “Nard Guards”. If I was spending anything I’d spring for a checker pad and pegs that fit and christen it BMXTAXI. Instead it is time for the fake tank.

Weather is behaving so I got the grungy rear triangle of the fair lady sanded & painted. The bike is called “Sundown” & the idea was to blend old & new paint...I may touch up the lower tube & headtube some more & leave the *Schwinn* logo...or paint the whole dang thing we’ll see. Silver on the forks, leaning towards black rims & black tires.
Started off with a silver base.

...then matched the blue...

I sprayed them in quick succession because I wanted them all to blend. Yeah, so girl’s BMX is the plan. Thinking about a front basket with a number plate.:rockout:

Going black tires with teal rims & chrome spokes. The all black detracts from the paint fade. I have a crate that matches the rims too.

Black rim in the back with the teal out front seems to accentuate the fade!
Right? I don’t usually go for miss matches but I really liked this look too...I felt it went with the theme...the boss felt the purple part of the fade was overwhelmed by the all black wheel...tried the teal back there and everything jelled. I may have to revisit a front to back fade look including the rims on something else.
