The Tank.
Made the shape from building foam.
Then covered it in tape.( I noticed that the resin does not stick to it and is easy to peel off)

My stand, makes it easier to turn around when applying the sheets.

I had saved this old lid from off a old out board boat tank. I wanted to go with a nice shiney cap from off another tank, but it was to big. In the end this little one fits perfect and seems to suit the build.
20180728_144843.jpg

Waiting for it to cure, and then ready to sand.
20180728_143037.jpg

Next big job is to sand all the fiberglass work, and hopefully they come out smooth as a babies????.

The tank rack.
I used a old wine/bottle rack from a fridge that was dumped.
Stainless steel and shiney(who can pass up something shiney)

Now needs a little spit n polish
20180728_182245.jpg

Also pulled the shocks apart and cleaned/painted

More spraying of the gears etc

This year I have tried a few knew things and technics that I have never done before.
One was fiberglassing till not sure if I have nail it,but I do enjoy sculpting when I have time.Sanding it NAH!!! Wish I couls skip that all together.

2nd is using air dry clay to make my shifter and air caps.

Now it is drying time and hopefully tomorrow I can paint.
Simpatico #13 just a lil reminder it was for this build-off.

And the third thing is drum roll.

ETCHING with a battery charger.
Since I purchased the elaborate overpriced pedals,I decide to design and etch the pattern into the pedal arms...
Started with pattern and printed it onto sticker paper.(out of black ink)
38071434_10155918583514811_970049510904430592_n.jpg

Then applied it to the arms with a layer of clear tape on top. Cut out the paper you dont want(snorefest)
38033422_10155918583184811_6148089356004360192_n.jpg

I mix water and salt, did not get much of a reaction,so then added vinegar, still blah... So did some more research and said to use caustic soda for alloy.
I combined all 3. Used a mask and off I went.

End result I would say I

Love that paint scheme. Kinda like classy Smoky and the Bandit. :D
Cool holey cogs too.
Great work in the shifter and valve cap sculpting. I have some sculpty clay around somewhere I need to try someday.
AWESOME crank arm etching!!!
You're getting a lot of slick detailed work in the mix at the last minute

Keep plugging away. You'll make it!

Awesome etching. I tried acid etching my headbadge with reasonable success. The 12v version looks good.
I noticed that it takes time, but does not seem to etch deep. Maybe on different metals. Nothing happens to start with then slowly it gets going. I just left the cotton bud in contact with the arm and walked away. I have seen it done with a 6v battery also.

Yesterday I started putting the frame back together just cleaning and greace the bearings. Will need to do the rack again it is to big,so will leave that till last.
Today is sanding and filling day on fiberglass.

Etching looks cool.
TIP: I have extensive experience of photo-etching. (My day job for the last 30-odd years was producing my own range of photo-etched model train kits). FYI, the etchant fluid of choice in the industry is ferric chloride.

Does anyone have the countdown finish clock up? This helps me a lot with the time difference.

yeah I had researched it,but things take so long to get here,so I tried it the slow way. But I will order some for the future. Is there anywhere you can get decent stencils that are cut out... Thats what really takes the time.

The most of the sanding is over. Time to prime and color.

Todays work is finish the fiberglassing(paint etc)

Shocks are back together
38177014_10155921521444811_5237325207126933504_n.jpg

I also have to make the stem and bars and chain guard.

Put the bike together and test it...

A long day today, but achieved a lot more then what I had written down.
I started the day sanding the gear shift knob... It was to bulky. So slimmed it down, still not sure, if I like it,been trying to paint it all day but ? I do have a backup if this does not work.

38194155_10155923322679811_7559285626579714048_n.jpg

Next up was make the arms for the forks.
Just used old metal and drilled a few holes. Little bit longer than the others.
38392412_10155923321984811_4418098789991055360_n.jpg

Started the stem, this bit was a part from my old pajero roll bar.
It is the base.
38411976_10155923768724811_3861111887559131136_n.jpg

It has to fit the top of the forks exactly.
38235148_10155923765964811_6986219156865548288_n.jpg

I had many of these type of stems and this has a rise so will lift the bars up higher.
38193496_10155923767954811_7991247731832127488_n.jpg

Not sure how it will look,as I was waiting for everything to dry. Just took a stab in the dark at it.

38036845_10155923767199811_6645234483396083712_n.jpg

Managed to remake a smaller rack, just have to put the base legs on and clean up.Fits the tank better.
38217163_10155923765944811_8386735815165739008_n.jpg

And YES,black n gold.
38217145_10155923772334811_455390383052947456_n.jpg

Love the ole cap so I am not even going to touch it...

What is left....
Gear shifter
Finish rack
handlebars
Chainguard.
Guard struts.

Handlebars. I have 3 choices all to short as I prefer wider bars. 2 are made from ally,so I am thinking of extending with pop rivets. Once bike is together I will see what set look the part.

Chainguard- if I have time. Just something simple. Just hate getting black all over my legs.

The struts will bend and paint tomorrow.
Will just make them out of some wide aluminium strips.
38223826_10155923773779811_5022366792656355328_n.jpg

Then put it all together.
Have no clue how it will feel once rolling.
