I have never owned or ridden a fixie. I've had the hub for a couple years but only used it as a freewheel so I gave it a try. I have a front brake of course. I took it down the street and it rode fine but is different.

More gadgets to add to the shop. A small press and a thing you attach to your drill to make it a press. Maintenence on the shop fan. Good thing they warned me about sticking my finger in the blades!

I think they look better with the spacers, it looks more like real dice (which they are) and not a block shaped like to look dice.

I filed the razor sharp points off the drops, but they are still dangerous. I'm smoothing them out and giving them some paint. They should look like 14kt gold when done.

I had to use a clamp like a press for the BB cups, so I thought the headset cups might go in that way. I used the big clamp again and pressed them in.

Magic? :21: Pure luck is more like it. My scrap bin has parts of a dozen forks chopped up and various bits of metal tubing from ideas that didn't pan out. I have a 25 to 1 ratio of things that actually work out. It makes for a big celebration for the thing that works. 🥳

On those old Schwinns, frame integrity is good. The step through frames that failed are those made later, in the late 60's and 70s where they were made more cheaply. The seat tube would bend and change the geometry of the frame.

Those are 26 x 3.0 tires on 57mm rims. The bike probably came with 26 x 2.125 tires. The previous version:
